"I have to look at all of my options. I guess I have to wait and see what happens tomorrow." --Andreas Lilja
That's what he told the Detroit News as all the other players were packing their gear for Training Camp to start this weekend in Traverse City. Lilja, an Un-restricted Free Agent, is still waiting for a team to come calling. In the meantime, the Detroit organ-i-zation was curteous enough to extend him an invitation to their Training Camp.
"They've been real nice trying to help as much as they can and I appreciate that. I just have to see what's best for me."
Lilja says that he does not want to go play in Russia or even go home to Sweden. His priority is to play in the NHL and have his kids go to school - they're currently attending school in Northville, MI.
If nothing is settled for him by 8 AM tomorrow when the bus leaves for Traverse City, Andreas Lilja just might find himself on it. A former Wing without a team, heading to Training Camp.
Good on Detroit for offering him such an invitation. It may or may not prove to serve their best interest to keep Lilja in playing shape...but they're doing the right thing.
