From the Free Press:
Having signed Nicklas Lidstrom to a one-year deal worth $6.2 million this week, the Wings have $50.4 million committed toward next season. With the salary cap expected to rise by about $2 million, there is just under $9 million left in maneuvering room. Much of that, however, will be eaten by the expected re-signings of Tomas Holmstrom and Todd Bertuzzi, along with restricted free agents Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader, Drew Miller and Patrick Eaves
It'll take around $7 million combined to hook those six players. The Wings will either re-sign Andreas Lilja, or use that money on another veteran defenseman, to have someone to play with Jonathan Ericsson on the third pairing. Jakub Kindl has the inside track on being the seventh defenseman.
So Miss St. James thinks that getting #96, 44, 43, 20, 17, and 8 back will cost Detroit only $7 million...hmmm.
Holmstrom gets $2.5...
Bertuzzi gets $1.5...
Helm gets $800,000
Abdelkader gets $800,000
Eaves gets $850,000
Miller gets $800,000
That would be $7.25 million..which isn't good enough. That's even keeping Holmstrom and Bertuzzi's pay the same. Garth suggested that Holmstrom may not be interested in taking yet another hit in pay just to keep the team together.
Let's hope that's wrong. I want all 6 of these players.
