On year ago today, we were celebrating a win over Dallas - but this November has gone a little differently. In November of 2009, Detroit went 8-6-0 and was struggling to stay above .500 - in November of 2010, Detroit went 10-2-1 and is five points clear of anyone else in the Western Conference...except for Chicago (four points back) who has played in five more games so let's not let their inflated point total fool us, shall we?
It's a different year with a not-so-different team. Maybe all those folks out there who were listening to us whine about all the injuries are finally realizing what we were talking about. Nah, I'm sure they're still in their little bubble of blissful ignorance about that farce of a season last year (including the play-offs). But this year - our team is better than your team.
So as long as the Wings keep winning, and J.J. and C.B. continue to not get sick of this segment (along with all of you, of course) - we'll keep curb-stomping the competition - first on the ice, and then on here shortly thereafter.
After seeing zero comments in Couch Tart's in-depth preview of last night's game, I had to go outside of the Bloguin network to an old friend...
Yes, the good people of Fear the Fin provided us with the tripe to poke fun at. And they started early...
Before the game:
If the power at the Tank goes out again
Can we burn Wings fans for light?
by Evilducks on Nov 30, 2010 7:32 PM PST
On the end of a spear??!
by skilletboy on Nov 30, 2010 7:37 PM PST
Possibly on crusifictions (nothing to do with Christianity, the Romans were just good at functionality)
by Evilducks on Nov 30, 2010 7:40 PM PST
This little back and forth about Wings-fan hating came right after a debate on how Detroit-San Jose is NOT a storied rivalry - but there does seem to be some (politcally correct) animosity there, doesn't there?
Surprisingly - there was well over 1,000 comments on the Game Day thread so let's move along.
Goal #1 for Detroit:
Man, you could see that one coming

This is going to be a tough night
by Evilducks on Nov 30, 2010 7:47 PM PST
Of course, Evilducks meant that in the most respective way and apologizes to all Christians who may consider their own personal lives to be "tough". Talk to Jesus about a tough night, kid.
And after Dangles beautiful goal to put the Wings up 2-0:
Oh my god

Nitty, please don't dive for pucks when they're being dangled.
by Auth0r on Nov 30, 2010 7:53 PM PST
Hmmm, maybe I don't need to see this game in HD...
by ZeroIndulgence on Nov 30, 2010 7:53 PM PST
We knew this game was going to be bad.
by Evilducks on Nov 30, 2010 7:54 PM PST
Indeed we did...
by ZeroIndulgence on Nov 30, 2010 7:55 PM PST
you guys have such little faith!
by Angy on Nov 30, 2010 7:57 PM PST
I like to think of it as
3 rookie defensemen against Detroit.
by Evilducks on Nov 30, 2010 7:59 PM PST
No offense to all Christians who are rookies though...okay I'm done. There are few things I find more amusing on blogs than fans turning on each other - especially when Detroit is the catalyst of them doing so.
Here's a couple quickies after the Seafood scored their first goal...
We aren't gonna get shut out!

by Catstoy on Nov 30, 2010 7:57 PM PST
It's sad, that's the first thing I thought too.
by Evilducks on Nov 30, 2010 7:57 PM PST
Somewhere, there's a purple donkey in a Sharks jersey out there with a pinned-on tail.
And then strangely, the attention turns to Babcock for a second:
hey mike babcock
I dislike you, capische?
by JakeBot on Nov 30, 2010 9:00 PM PST
He's alright, Western Canada nonsense aside.
by ievans on Nov 30, 2010 9:02 PM PST
Any man who can follow Scotty Bowman
And not just ride his coat-tails is doing something right

Ready for some more Wing-loving after that late second period goal?
Detroit is really good this year. Sigh...
by ZeroIndulgence on Nov 30, 2010 9:06 PM PST
They've been 'really good' every year I've been a fan
hell...since the Sharks entered the League
I'll celebrate the day they officially fall out of playoff contention
by SwisherThresher on Nov 30, 2010 9:09 PM PST
Haha, I wouldn't plan that parade quite yet. They have to get old at some time, though...right???
by ZeroIndulgence on Nov 30, 2010 9:12 PM PST
Don't you mean older?
by Lurker Shark on Nov 30, 2010 9:13 PM PST
they are older ... just not old enough
by Angy on Nov 30, 2010 9:13 PM PST
They aren't playing old...
by ZeroIndulgence on Nov 30, 2010 9:14 PM PST
It's only November
Let the season really start to set in first.
by Evilducks on Nov 30, 2010 9:15 PM PST
tell that to nikolas lidstrom
by JakeBot on Nov 30, 2010 9:13 PM PST
Bad spelling aside...some of these comments are lot more insightful than I may have given the typical Shark fan credit for. I like to call these "whipped dog comments".
Let's skip to the post game shall we?
At the risk of sounding entitled
This was the first time I feel like the Sharks were flat out BEAT by a better team. We've LOST lots of games by mailing it in. But we were beat this game, and that happens sometimes. And it wasn't as bad as I thought. I don't think the season is lost anymore, but we do need to shore a few things up before we want to think about Spring.
by ElvisVF101 on Nov 30, 2010 9:59 PM PST
That about sums it up, doesn't it? Oh and there's some good trolling by some Wings fans (including the notorious JJ from Kansas). So if you want to check that out click the link above and scroll down to around 10 PM and watch the fun.
Damn it feels good to be a Wings fan.
